Founder's Greeting

Welcome to our new subscribers and our new members this week!

My apologies for the fact that this newsletter is a couple of days late but I've been a bit under the weather.

Well, we made it through the election and I am so happy that the ideology of our President-Elect, Barack Obama will help steer our country toward prosperity and peace.  Just as he told you, he will not be able to do it alone and he probably will not be achieve all that he hopes to achieve during his first term.  Our job is to pray for him and our country and believe that we can prosper.

I believe the country is breathing a collective sigh of relief with this change in administration.  I also know that many people have been laid off and some of those jobs will never be recovered.  However, did you know that many highly successful companies were started from people's homes after they were laid off or fired?  History also reveals that many successful businesses were started during an economic downturn so even if you haven't been laid off or fired, now is the time to start that home-based business you've been talking and thinking about.

We are still focusing on marketing your business and will continue to do so.  Today's newsletter focuses on branding your business.

Also, please join me in congratulating our Member of the Month, Sharman Lawson.  You can read more about Sharman in this newsletter.

Wishing you abundance,

Feature Article

Branding Yourself on a Budget by Carmin Wharton

As a home-based business owner you may be wondering where you can get a quality website, graphics and marketing materials, within a small budget.

I can totally relate because when I opened my work-at-home business a couple of years ago I faced the same challenge.

And just because I have a home-based business, doesn’t mean I don't want to look professional and compete with larger companies!  That’s one of the things that makes owning an Internet business so great; you can effectively compete with larger companies but your marketing materials have to look the part. If you’ve been putting off creating marketing materials because you don’t know where to start or think you can’t afford to start, today I am offering you very low cost ways to do so.

Branding IS important, especially for home-based business owners

After several years I have finally compiled a very long list of great resources. In fact, nearly 100 of them are included in the e-BlackWomenNetwork Resource Rolodex.

I'd like to share a few of my favorite resources with you.

1) Logo Design Guru

If you want your prospects and clients to take you seriously, you need to project a professional image. A quality logo mark is a great way to do that.

I recommend a service called
www.LogoDesignGuru.com. For as little as $99 you can get a quality logo. This is a great deal. Marketing agencies charge clients anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 for a logo and many online logo companies start out charging $300 for a logo.

2) Websites

You have got to have a website.  This is no longer a debatable issue. If you are a business, home-based or otherwise, you must have a web presence to compete. There are a variety of ways you can get your own website, very inexpensively.

-Build it Yourself

You can build the site yourself using a software program like Microsoft FrontPage.  To upload your website to the Internet, you will have to purchase hosting.  You can use one of the "site builder" programs available through companies like www.GoDaddy.com .  I use Godaddy.com to host one of my business websites that I built using FrontPage. Previously I used their Website Tonight product which is very simple to use; if you can type in Microsoft Word, you can use the Website Tonight product. GoDaddy.com hosts all of my business email accounts.

Or, you can take your business online with Microsoft® Office Live Small Business. Get a FREE Web site and e-mail, plus low-cost e-commerce. With this option, your domain name is free for one year and after that it’s $14.95 per year!

-Hire a Pro (for cheap!)

Or, you can have the pro's design and develop your site. Elance.com is a great resource for quality, inexpensive website development professionals (and many other kinds of pros as well!).

3) Printing Made Easy

Once you have your logo, you are ready to get business cards and letterhead. For business cards, or if you want printed letterhead, I highly recommend a service called VistaPrint.com.  I have used VistaPrint.com to print all of my marketing materials; I even acquired a
Free Car Door Custom Magnet
sign from VistaPrint.  Their specials can’t be beat; it is not uncommon to be able to get  FREE Business Cards!

If you have you been dragging your feet getting a logo mark, getting your website done, or creating your brand identity package because you just weren't sure where to turn? Well, now you've got some quality resources you can use.
