Founder's Message

Welcome to our new subscribers.  I am humbled and honored that you have joined us on this journey to and through entrepreneurship.  I pray this newsletter finds you well in spirit, mind and body. This message from is a bit long because I have been away and I felt that I owed you an explanation regarding my absence.  I promise my messages won't be this long in subsequent newsletters.  Please bear with me.

I've been away for awhile for 3 reasons.  First, my 86-year old mother (whom I live with) had total knee replacement surgery and there were complications at the rehab center.  Second, prior to the surgery we had scheduled a total renovation of our 60-year old house so in the middle of rehab we had to move to a hotel for 4 nights; the renovation lasted a month!  Third, fear - that's right - you read it right and I believe confession is good for the soul.

Now, let's briefly examine how these 3 reasons for my absence impacts your business.

Is your business ready for a total replacement?  Sometimes, to move your business and life forward, you have to totally remove the old and replace it with a new, improved _________; you fill in the blank.  Do you need to totally reconstruct the core of your business? Do you need a new, improved website?  Do you need to outsource some everyday tasks that are keeping you from marketing your business?  If necessary, don't be afraid to stop, pray, regroup and relaunch your business.  That's what I did with the e-BlackWomenNetwork.com website.  While I was on hiatus, I stopped and asked myself why I started this organization in the first place.  Once I did that I was able to refocus and so I removed some things from the website and added others so that I could minister to your needs - not my ego or what I think you want. By the way, my mom's knee and overall health is as good as new.  She's the most active 86-year old that I know; she's involved in church, our sorority and is on several civic and community boards!

Having said that, because this organization exists to serve you and your business needs, I hope you'll help us achieve this goal by participating in a short survey so that you can let me know what information you need to grow your business.  Please click here to participate.

Now, let's get back to the reasons for my absence.  Do you need to renovate your home office or work space?  Is your work area conducive to your success?  Is it well-lit?  Is the temperature suitable to your body?  How about your chair and desk; do they fit your style?  Is it time for a new desk with more space - less space - more drawers - less drawers?  If you own a PC, does your desk have space so that you can get the PC off of the floor?  Would a peace of favorite artwork help spruce up your area?  How about flowers or a new frame for an old photo? After the home renovation, my old desk looked like I had gotten it off a junk heap!  My "office chair" was really on old dining room chair (I know, I know) and my desk was purchased when my adult children were in elementary school. Check out my new office set up (right) and our newly renovated living room (left):

Okay, now to the third and final reason for my hiatus - False Expectations Appearing Real - FEAR!  Fear of what you say?  Fear of success; once my businesses take off, I'll need to hire help and my life won't be the same.  Fear of failure; if my businesses don't take off, I'll have to go back into the traditional workplace. The thought of the second option makes me physically ill.  I spoke to a new friend and colleague and she said the thought of returning to the workplace actually makes her feel nauseous!

What is fear holding you back from or keeping you in?  Is fear holding you back from cold calling for new clients?  Is fear holding you back from networking with other business people in your community and online?  Is fear keeping you in a job that you think you need to pay the bills but you become physically or mentally ill on Sunday evening when you start laying out your clothes for Monday morning?  Do it afraid; feel the fear and do it any way.

Promise me that you'll begin today to do one thing each day toward the life of your dreams. Okay?
